This is a follow on to one of my recent posts 6 High Protein Snack Ideas and as much as I’d like to take credit for the recipe that I’m about to share with you – unfortunately I can’t.
The credit here goes to my mate Mark Raynsford, a Personal Trainer from Surrey in the UK.
The tasty recipe is an adaption of the Bounce Ball protein snacks that you can find in health food shops and gyms around the world and will make a perfect addition to your healthy eating plan and best news of all – it is gluten free!
You can find the original post here and Mark has graciously allowed me to republish it here. He is an alright bloke for a Pom!
Mark mentioned that you may want to play about with the levels of ingredients to get your own consistency – just like we have done in my house.
In fact I have never made them personally – my wife Bron does the producing of these little babies.
She does them so good I’d hate to tamper with one of her specialties (I think that’ll keep me safe from getting my hands dirty!).
My additions are in italics
- 4-5 Tablespoons of Organic Natural Peanut Butter – we prefer ABC Spread (Almonds, Brazil and Cashew Nut Spread found in the health food section at Coles or Woolies)
- 100g Vanilla Protein Powder or Flavour to suit – we’ve tried vanilla but prefer chocolate ones
- 1 Tablespoon honey
- Some Soya/Goats/Rice milk (I used about 100ml), but add slowly until the mixture is a sticky goo – you don’t want it to be too moist and running – I personally don’t recommend Soy milk anymore due to too much negative research I’ve seen on it lately – especially if you have thyroid problems stay away from it! We use rice milk
- Some Ground nuts (mixture or just almonds) – we use a mix of nuts and seeds here for some extra protein
Combine all the ingredients and stir together. At this point you can throw in a handful of ground nuts if you wish.
Wet your hands and scoop out some mix, roll into a ball shape (it will get sticky!) and then roll it in ground nuts – we use chopped peanuts for this
Place on a baking tray and once you have made about 10 place them in the fridge for a few hours and there you go!!
Enjoy, and let me know what you think and if you make any changes to make it better.
Thanks Mark – it’s a beauty!
I think that this is a great way to get a healthy snack in as you can control what you put in – something you can’t do when you buy a regular bounce ball or protein bar.
Stay healthy, stay lean, stay keen n don’t be mean – let me know if you tried this and liked it (and don’t forget to check out Mark’s Blog too).
