How Do I Find The Right Running Shoe To Buy?

There is a brand new shop that has just opened at Bondi Beach in Sydney – The Running Company and if you have ever wondered what type of running shoe that is actually right for your foot, then this is the perfect place for you.

You won’t have to feel pressured by the pimply faced teenager who is pushing the shoe that he gets the most commission for selling (yes, the staff at places like Rebel do get commission on the shoe they recommend you).

You will get the chance to have a proper video gait analysis done on you and your running style so the days of shin splints, plantar fasciitis and any other type of foot pain caused by badly fitting shoes will be long gone.

How do I know?

Because of the man that runs the show – Chris Chapman (better known as Chicken) set me on the straight and narrow years ago.

I used to be troubled by bad plantar fasciitis and other joint dramas because I used to buy a shoe just because it looked good and felt okay.

Little did I know that I was wearing the wrong types of shoes.

The Running Company, Bondi Beach Will Get The Right Shoe For Your Foot

So I want to save you from the pain and dramas that I went through so I put Chicken on the DPM hotseat to give you a perfect insight into how to find the right pair of shoes.

And if you stick around to the end of the interview, he’s got a nice little incentive for you to visit his brand new store.

DPM: How do I find the right type of shoe that is perfect for my foot?

Chicken: Two things.

1)We ask you what your goals are, if you’ve had any injuries in the past and ask that you bring your old shoes in.

2)We’d then get you to run or walk, whatever you’re comfortable with on the treadmill in front of the video camera. We will digitally copy this to the Imac so that we can reply and slow down your foot motion to see exactly what your foot is doing.

We’ll then match your foot to 3 types of shoes and you’ll again get back on the treadmill with the shoes.

We’ll review all the footage and from there should have a clear picture of which shoe works best for you and is most comfortable for you.

DPM: What about people that have a bit of pain underneath their foot when they train (like I used to). Is this due to incorrect footwear?

Chicken: It could be a number of things, poorly fitted and recommended footwear is a big cause but it could be over training or a weakness in your foot, best to get it checked out by any one of our local physio’s or podiatrists who are also runners and understand what athlete’s needs are.

DPM: Is it a myth that I need the most expensive pair of shoes otherwise I’ll damage my feet?

Chicken: Completely! Don’t align the cost of the shoe with the fact that you won’t get injured! You could be running in the most expensive pair, they could be all wrong for your foot type and you can get injured!

It’s all about matching the foot to the shoe and we have varying pricepoints of shoes from $160 through to $280.

DPM: If you could give me one tip to increase my training efficiency what would it be?

Chicken: Listen – to your trainer but also your body! Good trainers like Dan will also listen to you too. They’ve been through the hard yards

(note from Dan: I didn’t write that answer – it was totally unscripted!)

DPM: Thanks Chicken, I appreciate it mate. Any special offer for the DPM Performance clients and readers?

Chicken: Yeah sure do – it’s 10% off for all your customers until christmas but they have to mention your name!

There you have it team. Mention Daniel Munday as your codeword and you can get 10% off any runners but only at The Running Company, Bondi Beach.

You can find them at

The Running Company

6/157 Curlewis st – the actual shop front is on Gould St (corner of Curlewis – 1 block back from the beach)

Bondi Beach (just off Campbell Parade)

And don’t forget to tell Chicken that I sent you (I don’t get any kickbacks I just want to help you get the right shoe for your foot).

Besides, he’s a good bloke and I know he will definitely look after you.

This video will help give you a little more of an idea about Chicken’s knowledge and how he can help you.

If you’re in the Eastern Suburbs I definitely recommend you go and check out Chicken and the team.
