Gymboss Interval Timer Review

A few months ago I was approached by Jake from the Gymboss timer company because he wanted to send me out one of his interval timers for me to use and review.

Now I admit, like I told Jake, that I had used them in the past and the one I had didn’t last very long. I always used to use Workout Muse for my intervals work but even though it’s a great program because it gives you your interval start and stop times I found that the music gets a bit old after a while – especially when I’d prefer to listen to my favourite workout tunes.

But I was prepared to try another one after Jake mentioned how I was supposed to reset it (something I didn’t originally try) so I took him up on his generous offer. Strike 1 for Gymboss.

They were happy to help me with how to fix a problem – so their communication and response to solving problems gets a tick.

I wasn’t brushed because I had a timer that didn’t work – something that other businesses in other industries could learn.

So after it arrived I was looking forward to putting my clients, and myself, through the paces with the new timer.

And now I can do my tabata workouts and listen to my iPod without having to sacrifice one or the other. Strike 2 for Gymboss.

My thoughts on the Gymboss Interval Timer

There’s a new feature that is really handy, especially for people like me that can get easily distracted and lose count of how many rounds you’ve actually done.

It actually keeps track of how many rounds you’ve finished.

So, I can run a Tabata session with my clients (or like I did with my own workout on the weekend) and know when the 4 mins is up without having to second guess if I’d done 8 rounds, 9 rounds or even cutting short and doing 7. Big tick there for that new addition fellas!

The other thing I really like is how I can run a boxing group – like I did this morning – and just press the start button once.

I don’t have to reset every 20 seconds and count to 10 seconds because I can set 2 different interval times – the exact thing that every other stop watch timer lacks!

It really is set and forget.

The alarm rings when the round finishes and you don’t even need to take off the pads and reset your timer. It keeps on looping around for however many rounds you set.

The next positive is the cheap price.

Yes, it’s a US company but with the exchange rate being so good at the moment for the Aussie dollar you can even get change out of $25 AUD. They retail for $19.95USD plus postage of a couple of bucks (it’s the same cost anywhere in the world).

Very reasonable as most other decent stopwatches (that have half of these functions) are at least double.

For those that like to accessorise, you can even pick a gymboss colour.

In all honesty, I can say that I cannot find a fault in this timer.

I’ve used plenty of different stopwatches over the years with timers and so forth and for a fraction of the price of one of these other ones you can get a Gymboss interval timer that does all the thinking for you. I guess the only downside, and I’m saying this with my tongue in my cheek, is that you still have to do the workout yourself!

So thanks Jake, I can guarantee you I will get great value out of this timer and I know that if I do have any dramas down the track the service is friendly enough to give me a solution.

You can pick up a Gymboss of your own by clicking any of the links in this review or by clicking on the picture below.

And if you do decide to grab one through this page, simply email me your receipt to daniel@dpmperformance.com.au and I’ll send you a personally designed tabatas interval program that you can use with your brand new timer.
